baby steps--a minor league per diem increase

Yesterday the Wall Street Journal reported an increase in minor league per diem from $20 to $25. The link to the article is here:

I'll have more on this in an upcoming Baseball America article. In the meantime, I'm getting an MRI done today (in an hour or two). Gotta get this back and hip checked out. Maybe I should stop working out with the 85 year old Cuban lady at the Community Center.

Congratulations on having one of the most sophisticated blogs Ive come across in some time!  Its just incredible how much you can take away from something simply because of how visually beautiful it is.  Youve put together a great blog space --great graphics, videos, layout.  This is definitely a must-see blog!

Research shows that teens increased their smokeless tobacco usage in recent years. Like it or not, athletes are role models (sorry, Charles Barkley), as kids emulate them. Athletes today enjoy greater exposure than ever. Consequently, their tobacco usage gains more exposure. The World Series averaged 19.4 million viewers in 2009. Though World Series ratings were lower this year, overall playoff ratings were strong. And the Internet offers seemingly endless possibilities for exposure.

Great piece in Baseball America, Garrett -- it was worth the wait. As happy as I am to have Opening Day finally come (go Giants!), it's depressing to learn how the gilded house of baseball has been built on a foundation of such ruthless exploitation. It's a disgrace that a parasite like Scot Boras -- a man who has done more damage to baseball than all the strikes, lawsuits, and steroids combined -- grows fat and incredibly wealthy while the living conditions of minor leaguers keep getting worse.

However, sometimes the dependency management thing in Maven seems to have a "bad day". Unknown jars pop up in your war file or Maven uses a completely wrong version for your build process. If things like this happen, it is likely that a mechanism called dependency mediation decided to screw up your well-defined list of dependencies. Let's take a look at that beast.

The case was handled by the Internal Affairs Division, and both employees were disciplined in accordance with police policy, Mr. Browne said. But the violation of department rules came when the forensic unit failed to file a report on the matter with both the state and with the American Society of Criminal Laboratory Directors/Laboratory Accreditation Board, a national oversight organization that accredits New York state forensic labs.
